Living, and Loving, Fearlessly

I catch a lot of crap for watching reality TV on VH1, but the truth is I sometimes learn a thing or two while watching them. Recently, though I didn’t really learn anything, I was reminded of the importance of facing your fears when Dr. Allison Arnold visited Charm School to give the girls a lesson in facing their fears.

Dr. Allie reminded the girls that there are two kinds of people. There are those that crumble under fear and those that stand in the face of their fear and create an amazing life for yourself. Fear is created in our mind and it causes us to armor our hearts or to get defense or to just be afraid.

I realized a new fear recently during the season finale of Tough Love Boot Camp and yesterday, while watching Dr. Allie’s lesson in facing fears, it hit me that I haven’t really dealt with that fear and, very possibly, the other fears that hold me back. In thinking about them, it became apparent to me that they are really getting in the way in my relationships and in my life. If I don’t face them, and banish them, there is potential for self-sabatoge in relationships.

These are the fears that are getting in my way:

  • I am afraid of being hurt.
  • I am afraid of rejection.
  • I am afraid I’m not good enough.
  • I am afraid of being unimportant.

It’s time to deal with these fears once and for all, and I have a plan to do just that. Today, I’ll banish them. I will, in fact, light them up. One concrete way to do that I have heard is to write your fears down on pieces of paper.  Then, after making a positive affirmation to banish each fear, light each piece of paper on fire and watch it crumble and burn away.

As Dr. Allie explained, living fearlessly is that you live fearlessly because it’s who you are; because you have decided to do that. Today is the day I begin living fearlessly. Today is the day I take control of my life, banish those fears and continue to create an amazing life for myself.

I have those same fears, and while I have chosen to stop running from them, but rather turn around and face them, I have found it is not so easy as to write them down on paper and then burn them. I will give it a try though.

Best wishes, and most of all, I am sending you a helping heart in facing and conquering those fears.
