Go Green With These Environmentally Friendly Dating Ideas

Going green isn’t only fashionable these days, it’s necessary. When we think about going green, most of us think recycling, using “green” cleaning products, and staying away from styrofoam. The truth is though that we can carry over our environmental friendliness to our dating lives with some simple tips that are likely to not only help save the planet, but bring a little variety to love lives.

Pick Your Date Up With Something a Little Different

With spring finally here, why not pick your date up on a tandem bicycle or on roller blades. Or just walk to your date. Either way you’re decreased carbons being released into the air and burning calories at the same time.

Skip the Store Bought Flowers

Sure girls love flowers, but rather than buying a store bought boquet, consider stopping by the local farmer’s market for a fresh boquet or a potted plant sans the pesticides and nastiness that the store bought variety contain. Or, better yet, if you have a green thumb of your own, pick a beautiful arrangement from your own garden.

Take it Outside

There are many alternatives to the same old dinner and a movie date. Consider taking your date outside. Go for a walk, check out a local outdoor music festival or, after you’ve picked her up on a bike or blades, ride or blade over to the park or a local beach for a picnic. Just be sure your picnic basket is environmentally friendly as well. After all, plastic silverware and paper plates sort of defeat the purpose. You can even multi task by walking the dogs at the same time. Or why not wash the car together? A little water play always makes for a fun date.

Stay In

Instead of going out for your date, consider staying in, turning off the lights, and having a romantic, candle lit dinner. Go all out and prepare a dinner with organic ingredients. You can also watch a movie or really change things up and play a board game. If it’s nice outside, pour a nice glass of organic wine and sit out on the porch. Think of it, just you and your date enjoying each other’s company without all of the distractions.

Become More Involved

Make an impact with your date. While on your walk pick up cans and take them to recycling. While you’re there, tour the facility together and find out what else you can do. Afterwards, use the money your cans netted to share an ice cream.

Plant trees. Why not have a long lasting impact on the environment together? There’s nothing like a little manual labor to bring people closer.

Volunteer to join a community neighborhood clean up project, a local soup kitchen or help work a community garden together. You’ll feel good about joining the cause and helping the community thus creating a common bond.

Go Green Shopping

Check out a local flea market. Buying used items at flea markets or antique stores is a great way to recycle. Besides, everyone knows there are tons of treasures to be found. Honestly, one of the greatest afternoons I ever spent was on an antique store shopping spree.

Green Up Your Sex Toys

Consider using glass sex toys. Made off recyclable glass, glass is about as environmentally friendly as it gets. Remember also, that plastic and rubber sex toys are made of PVC which contains those nasty phthalates which contains toxins. Glass also doesn’t break down and end up in landfills spewing those toxins into the air like rubber and plastic toys do.

If you really don’t think you’re ready to go glass, consider silicone toys. Some companies are starting to make their toys eco-friendly so you can look for those. Several companies even make solar powered bullets though I have to wonder how much power we’re talking about there.

Looking for Dates?

If you’re single and looking for a date, there are actually several green dating sites. Check out Green-Passions, Earth Wise Singles, or Planet Earth Singles to meet like minded singles and save the planet together.

I like the idea of planting trees together even though I can’t actually see many couples doing it together. Where exactly would you go to plant a tree?

    I’m actually asking. Great post

Thanks simonandcole! I would think you could call your local chamber of commerce to get that kind of information or plant one in your own yard. You could even reach out to elderly people you know and volunteer to plant one in their yard.
