I Used to Miss Him…But My Aim Is Improving

“Like a hike through a rain forest full of creepy exotic bugs, the end of any relationship is full of surprises sure to make you jump a mile and scream ‘eeeww.’”

In her sassy breakup survival guide, I Used To Miss Him…But My Aim Is Improving Alison James combines the perfect amount wit, humor, and just plain good advice designed to get any girl to dig herself out from under all of the snot filled tissues and start living again. Her objective is to “help you flush your dreaded ex out of your system for good.”

This brilliant survival guide goes through all of the stages of a breakup, from the breakup itself to finally moving on and finding someone new and more deserving of your time. Alison James provides ways to deal with the initial shock, the grieving process, getting out again, avoiding getting sucked back in, and finding your inner diva.

I would recommend this book to any girl (sorry guys I don’t think you would appreciate being called a “sassy diva” constantly) who is going through or has gone through a break up. While the process and the steps in the process are vital, this book contains one of the most powerful motivators in the world- humor. While reading the book, you can’t help but smile and laugh out loud. It lifts your spirits and makes you *want* to climb out of your pity pool and move on.

I do, however, think that this book should come with a disclaimer. Some of her suggestions, such as filling his steam iron with bleach, are not meant to be taken literally- I hope! But the suggestions definitely bring a conniving smile to your face!

The most important aspect of the survival guide is how Alison James helps us to revive our self worth. While the term “sassy diva” gets redundant and annoying, it is just one way in which she reminds us that we deserve to be happy and to be in charge of our own lives. She helps to put things in perspective with things like the “Top Ten Signs That Life Will Never Be Perfect,” my favorite of which is number 9, “Almost every woman’s current boyfriend is somebody’s slimy ex.”

If you have gone through a breakup at any point in your life, no matter how recent, I completely recommend getting your hands on a copy of “I Used To Miss Him…” At the least, you will get a good laugh.

Ah, yes, #9 is good…it is hard for me to believe sometimes that the fellow who cheated on his ex with two different women and didn’t break up with her for almost a year after he knew she wasn’t “the one” is the same man who loves me unconditionally and with whom I had fabulous post-election sex this very morning!
