Reality dating shows are everywhere these days. From MTVs A Shot at Love With Tila Tequila to VH1s I Love New York 2, they’re all over TV. Tila and New York both recently reveled their choices and say they found love. Tila chose Bobby and New York chose Tailor-Made.
Now, I admit I didn’t watch I Love New York 2 other than part of an episode my daughter was watching. Something about the girl is just much too much for me. I do, however, respect her dating tips.
Wise advice from a girl who’s, well not really so wise. Still, four reality show cycles have apparently taught her something. And, I have to say, she does seem to know what she’s talking about here.
Most importantly, at least in my eyes, is finding someone who accepts you on every level. As I’ve said before, when you’re dating in your 40s, you’ve been through some shit. Unless you’ve been locked in a closet for 40 years, you’ve done some things and made some choices that were less than stellar. And you worry that you’ll be judged because of them.
The thing is this. Those things, those decisions made you the person you are today. I know that the person I am would not exist otherwise. And the person I am today is one helluva catch. The lucky man who discovers and accepts who I am on every level, is in for a lifetime of love like he never imagined.
Huh, who would have ever thought there would be a lesson to be learned from New York. Go figure.
